Writing

Tom has been performing his poetry since 1998, and often combines poems and songs during performances. He has been featured as a poet at Glastonbury Festival and on Channel 4 Television. He has performed poetry in art galleries, schools and theatres, and is a winner of four poetry slams.

In recent years, Tom’s work has increasingly focused on themes of wellbeing, spirituality and the natural world. In 2020, he was comissioned by the arts organisation Collective Encounters to write and film a poem celebrating the role played by public parks during the Covid-19 lockdown:

Tom’s poetry has appeared in anthologies including The Dead Good Poetry Anthology and Best of Manchester poets and on websites including www.poetrykit.org/Neon Highway magazine and openwidemagazine.co.uk

His most recent collection is ‘Keys to the Forest: A Poetic Journey’, published by Heartwell Books.

Workshops

Tom has run creative writing workshops for many organisations, often to promote mental health and wellbeing. Tom describes his technique as ‘mindful writing’, a practice combining creative writing with mindfulness, and taking inspiration from nature, the senses, the seasons and feelings. He has delivered workshops with organisations including Liverpool Mental Health Consortium, BBC Up For Arts and Abergavenny Literature Festival.

From 2007-2010 Tom was the editor and lead writer for Slacker Sounds, a fanzine concentrating on grassroots music and culture in Liverpool.
