The year so far…

Ok, it’s been a while since I last wrote anything on here. Maybe that’s because I’ve been too busy with events and ting. One things for sure, this year has been amazing so far. I’ll start by telling you about two gigs I had in January.

On 31st January I did my latest gig for Bright Club Manchester. Bright Club is a nationwide conspiracy of boffins who don’t see why science should be tame and boring. To that end, they organise science-themed comedy/cabaret nights across the nation for academics, students AND normal people to attend. Imagine a royal institution lecture with filthy jokes thrown in.

It’s been my pleasure to be the musical guest of Manchester’s Bright Club several times, and this time the event was held in my beloved Nexus Art Cafe, right in the centre of The Rainy City.

It’s nice to be a semi-regular performer there and I always seem to go down well, even if do often feel as though I should have memorised the structure of the human genome by the next time I attend.

Anyway, shortly after that I answered an appeal on facebook for a performer at Newcastle Bright Club and was offered a slot. This was to be a poetry performance so I promised to do ten minutes of science-themed poetry. This started with my poem ‘Careless Wispa’ which I introduced by explaining that it was inspired by hearing that chocolate stimulates the same parts of the brain that sex does.

Newcastle Bright Club were utterly lovely to me, and I hope to see more of the city.

While I was there I also visited the Star and Shadow Cinema, an cinema with a distinctly underground feel. I left two copies of my poetry zine for their library. Not wishing the corporate outlets to feel shunned, I also deposited a copy in Waterstone’s in the city centre, where it nestled against Allen Ginsberg’s collected works (for how long I know not…).

Just two highlights of my year! More to come…
