Dreamcatcher is a video project I began last summer with a lil’ Flip camera.
Interviewing friends and complete strangers, I simply wanted to share some stories from that mysterious world we all inhabit on the flip-side of consciousness. It was easier speaking to friends than complete strangers, although approaching people I didn’t know often produced the most rewarding interviews.
I make no claim to be an interpreter of dreams (and I’m not sure such a thing is even possible), but during the interviews, people often revealed aspects of themselves, their lives and their families that threw light on their dream experiences.
After interviewing dozens of people, I’ve now produced two short Dreamcatcher films in which I’ve uploaded to youtube.
In September I volunteered at Liverpool Biennial, a two-yearly art festival that lasts for two months. At the end of the Biennial I was exited to hear that a group of volunteers had decided to organise their own exhibition, so I got in touch with them, proposing to show my Dreamcatcher footage as a video installation.
The exhibition is called ‘Not Just’ and will feature the work of seventeen artists at the Domino Gallery on Upper Newington, L1 from 17-20th January 11am- 5pm. There is a private view with a poetry performance by myself at 6pm-8pm on Wednsday 16th.
During the exhibition I will be onsite, interviewing visitors to add their dreams stories to the footage that is being played (if they want). Come along and tell me your dream!!
