Dreamcatcher news

Since June this year I’ve added a new identity to my several selves. I am the Dreamcatcher; collector of stories from the subconscious. Practically speaking, this means I go up to people and ask them about dreams they’ve had. It’s a strange activity to undertake and I encounter as many misses as hits; but with perseverance I’ve collected some extraordinary stories, dredged up from the ocean of mystery that exists just beneath the surface of us all, or “behind the wall of sleep”.

I’m wary of interpreting the dreams I hear and don’t claim to have any expert knowledge on the subject, other than a belief that we all do dream, and when we do, we inhabit the subconscious realm where creativity springs from. The point is, it’s not only ‘artists’ who come up with weird shit.

During the course of the interviews, participants often reveal aspects of their lives, their psychological and spiritual selves, that their dreams relate to. Therefore, I’m honoured to have their contributions.

When  possible I like to illustrate the dreams somehow, usually with a suitable setting, but sometimes with dream-sequences or animations, if the dreamers are happy with it.

So far this has been a purely online project, but I have recently had the opportunity for the project to be incorporated into a gallery installation, with dreams being collected as the films are screened. This will be taking place in Liverpool early next year- more news soon! zzzz…
